As of 2022 Los Angeles County has been using mLAPSS in its stroke protocols in lieu of LAPPS (the Los Angeles Prehospital Stroke Screen.) The screen is considered positive if all of the following criteria are met i.e.:

| No history of seizures or epilepsy | ✓ | |
| Age 40 years or older | ✓ | |
| At baseline, patient is not wheelchair bound or bedridden | ✓ | |
| Blood glucose between 60 and 400 mg/dL | ✓ | |
| Any asymmetry-unilateral weakness in the following: | ||
| Facial Smile/Grimace | ✓ | |
| Arm Strength | ✓ | |
| Grip Strength | ✓ | |
