LAMS HELP
This app is intended to help students learn the Los Angeles Motor Scale (LAMS).
It is provided for inspirational and amusement purposes only. Please read my full disclaimer and privacy policy.
The Los Angeles Motor Scale is a simple and rapid way to identify severe strokes in the prehospital setting by assessing a patient's face, arms, and grip. The scoring criteria look like this:
Facial Droop | |
---|---|
Absent | 0 |
Present | 1 |
Arm Drift | |
Absent | 0 |
Drifts Down | 1 |
Falls Rapidly | 2 |
Grip Strength | |
Normal | 0 |
Weak Grip | 1 |
No Grip | 2 |
The higher the score is, the worse the patient is. A stroke patient with with a LAMS ≧ 4 is considered severe.
One way to remember that this is a "Scale" and not a "Score" is that "Scale" contains an "l" and "a," thus, the L.A. Motor Scale.
